Rasmus Hojlund’s days in the Premier League are numbered, and a move to another of Europe’s big clubs could be on the horizon for the struggling Manchester United striker.

It is understood that Manchester United are willing to let Hojlund leave, and there is reported interest from a league he knows well.

The Danish striker has struggled to rise above United’s mediocrity to show his worth since joining Old Trafford in 2023, and the former Atalanta player could get a surprising second chance in Serie A.

After scoring late in United’s Europa League semi-final win against Athletic Club, Hojlund is according to widespread reports a top target for Juventus, who are fourth in Italy’s top division but do not have a single player with double-digit league goals in 2024-25.

There are several reasons for this, not least the injury problems that the talented Dušan Vlahović has had, but Højlund does not seem like the most obvious answer.

Nevertheless, Juventus are clearly interested and willing to send a midfielder back to the Premier League to facilitate a transfer for Hojlund.

Douglas Luiz knows the English top division inside and out. The Brazilian, now 26 years old, was not allowed to play for Manchester City’s first team due to work permit issues and then played 175 Premier League games for Aston Villa, where he was incredibly popular with supporters in the years following their promotion from the Championship.

According to Tuttosport, Luiz could be part of the negotiations.

“The report claims that the Serie A giant is leading the race to sign Hojlund this summer and has taken steps towards a deal,” writes Brett Worthington.

“There is talk that Dušan Vlahović, who Juventus are open to selling this summer, could be part of a deal for Hojlund, but it is also mentioned that Luiz is an ‘important card to play’ in negotiations for the United striker.”

Luiz has failed to replicate his Villa form in Italy and getting his alleged £135,000 salary off the payroll would be a bonus for Juventus.

If Hojlund is sold, Manchester United will need more attacking power – something they really already need.

Viktor Gyökeres has been linked with a reunion with United head coach Rúben Amorim, and there has also been reported interest in Liam Delap, Matheus Cunha, Victor Osimhen and Bryan Mbeumo.
