According to TeamTalk, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has asked the club to make a bid for Italian superstar Gianluigi Donnarumma and received the necessary support.

Manchester United have no choice, they must replace their current first goalkeeper, André Onana, after his second disastrous season at the club.

Onana joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for €55 million after then-manager Erik ten Hag wanted the goalkeeper he had good contact with from his time at Ajax, but it has been a complete failure with a number of serious mistakes.

There has been a lot of talk about bringing back first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea for many years, but several of those who remain in the organization at Old Trafford believe there is “too much history” for it to be that smart.

Against Liverpool in the last eight, he saved two penalties – from Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones – to send PSG ahead. Against Aston Villa in the quarter-finals, he made a series of impossible saves to prevent an away comeback.

And in the semi-final win over Arsenal, Donnarumma saved four miraculous shots – two in each game – to secure PSG’s 3-1 aggregate victory.

Experience beyond his age
After debuting as a 16-year-old, Donnarumma already has ten years of experience and over 400 club appearances for Milan and PSG.

He also has 72 caps for Italy and was named the tournament’s best player at Euro 2020, when the Azzurri won the championship.

He has a particularly impressive record against English teams and on English soil, most memorably in the Euro 2020 final when he saved penalties in the win over England.
