Manchester United have already signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon as part of Rúben Amorim’s squad upgrade, but the transfer business appears to be far from finished.

According to reports, United are willing to match Barcelona’s valuation of a highly valued midfielder, but any deal depends on another transfer.

The team is currently in the United States to participate in the Premier League Summer Series, following victories over West Ham and Bournemouth last week. They will face Everton in Atlanta on Sunday evening (3 August), before concluding their preparations against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on 9 August.

Uncertainty about multiplayer

The future of several players at the club is still unclear:

  • Tyrell Malacia
  • Alejandro Garnacho
  • Antony
  • Jadon Sancho

All of them are linked with possible transfers away from United. Marcus Rashford has already confirmed a season-long loan to Barcelona with an option to buy £26m next summer.

Manchester United are willing to pay £61m for Fermín López

According to Spanish Sport, United are willing to pay Barcelona’s asking price of £61 million for 22-year-old attacking midfielder/winger Fermín López.

López, a product of La Masia, recorded eight goals and ten assists in 46 appearances for Barcelona in the 2024/25 season. However, with Rashford’s arrival, his playing time could be limited, as Rashford is likely to play on the left wing, while Raphinha moves more centrally.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also showing interest, along with several Saudi Arabian clubs. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have not received an official offer from United, and manager Hansi Flick wants to keep him.

Depending on Benjamin Šeško transition

However, a potential deal for López may have to wait, while United are prioritising the pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško.

Šeško, 22, has been wanted by both United and Newcastle, who made a bid of £69.8 million (including bonuses) on Saturday – an offer Leipzig turned down. According to Sky Sports, United will likely have to sell players before they can make an official bid.

At the same time, RB Leipzig are interested in a loan deal for United striker Rasmus Hojlund, and have explored the possibility of this.
