Erik ten Hag was mainly blamed for Manchester United’s failure to succeed in the Premier League. Several United legends pointed to the players who needed to step up, but when the Dutchman boarded the private plane in Manchester at the end of October, the coach was left as the big scapegoat (it turned out that Ruben Amorim couldn’t save United this season either). Eight months later, Luke Shaw raises his hand and apologizes to Ten Hag.

The England international was injured for most of the period when Erik ten Hag was manager at Manchester United, and the unfortunate left-back himself takes some of the blame for what went wrong under the Dutchman’s leadership.

“I wasn’t there for him at the end, and it wasn’t nice. A lot of last season I just felt like I let a lot of people down at the club and in the team because I was injured all the time,” Shaw told The Athletic.

“Maybe it wasn’t like that in reality, but in my head it was very difficult. I put a lot of the blame on myself. It was very tough. I don’t want to go into too much detail about that,” says Shaw. Before he continues.

-I think last season is one you would rather forget. I’ve had injuries before, but last season was a different type of injury. It was terrible. It started with the calf, and I’ve never had a calf injury in my life, so I wasn’t used to it. It was a completely different type of rehabilitation and stuff. Things just kept happening,” says Shaw.
