Last year, Zinedine Zidane told L’Equipe that he is steering clear of the Premier League due to his language limitations. At least it shouldn’t have been on the money that the legend turned down Manchester United.

In 2018, Zidane was the big favourite to become Manchester United’s next coach, for the next few years until Ruben Amorim, the Frenchman has still been linked with United. Zidane’s former teammate in the French national team, Marcel Desailly, claims the Premier League giant made offers in a class of its own to Zidane.

-Will Zinedine Zidane be tempted by Saudi Arabia? Well, he had an offer with a blank cheque from Manchester United (and Chelsea), and turned it down,” Desailly told Goal.

An offer where Zidane himself could fill in the salary conditions… Still, this was not enough.

This comes on the question of what Zidane intends to do.

-He is not after the money (as the rejection of Manchester United showed). He likes to travel and always follows the French national team. He is ready because Didier Deschamps has started the transfer. France will be one of the favourites for the World Cup, and whether they win or lose, it is not the end of this era for France. There is a squad and a philosophy, and Zidane will know how to use it to rebuild his own team. For at least eight more years, France will be at the top level in Europe,” says Zidane’s former teammate.

We have to admit that we wonder what Manchester United would have looked like if Zinedine Zidane had been in charge.
