Manchester United were unable to reach a deal after trying to sign one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.

It is expected to be a hectic summer at Manchester United, especially if Champions League qualification is achieved. As is well known, Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season, which means that there will be a noticeable void in midfield.

Sandro Tonali, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Alex Scott have all been linked with the club, while talks to sign Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães for £69m are said to have progressed.

Another name that continues to emerge is Stuttgart player Angelo Stiller, a player who has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe in recent years.

In fact, United tried to sign Stiller as early as last summer, according to a new report from BILD, which claims that the Premier League club “hoped to sign him in the final stages of the transfer window”.

However, the 24-year-old turned down a transfer, as he wanted to play regularly to secure a place in Germany’s World Cup squad.

Back in September, the Mail reported that the Bundesliga club had been open to doing business with United on deadline day, but the player was not guaranteed regular playing time.

Stiller has been on United’s wish list for years, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that director of football Jason Wilcox is a big admirer of the German.

The midfielder, who featured in the German team in Friday’s friendly win over Switzerland, has previously been linked with a number of top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Angelo Stiller named as dream transfer by Manchester United supporter Luke Littler

Earlier this week, Luke Littler was asked to name his favourite German footballer ahead of his Premier League win in Berlin.

The world number one in darts then addressed a transition prayer to Angelo Stiller.

After naming Stiller as his favourite player, Littler added: “Come to United. Please, come to us. We need help. Casemiro is leaving us.”
