As if Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim doesn’t have enough to think about, there are now signals that two players, all at Old Trafford were sure would sign new deals, not necessarily going to happen.
Manchester United fail to make progress in contract negotiations with two players!
Ruben Amorim’s club are in 14th place in the Premier League after the 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day. They are in action again on December 30 when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford. – A match where the experts think a 35% chance of a home win, 27% for a draw and for a 38% away win. Amprim reports that now it’s all about survival, and then he needs players who don’t look towards the front door.
The Portuguese boss is likely to oversee a major rebuilding of the squad in the summer, but with less money than his predecessor Erik ten Hag had at his disposal. – But all purchases must be financed after years of large deficits.
It will require players to leave the club, and Fabrizio Romano claims that Amorim has already made a decision to let one player out when the season is complete.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and winger Alejandro Garnacho have both graduated from United’s academy to play significant roles in the first-team squad, although both have had significant challenges, but that’s for different reasons.
Garnacho was dropped from matchday to take on Manchester City earlier this month, and has been criticised by United fans for his decision-making during matches.
Mainoo, meanwhile, missed a month’s game due to a muscle injury and has recently returned to the starting XI.
However, Garnacho and Mainoo are 20 and 19 respectively, and are likely to be of significant value to United in the long term should they improve their performances further.
But the Daily Mail claims that United are ‘struggling to come to an agreement’ with both players on new contracts.
A failure to reach an agreement may not be too damaging in the short term for United, as Mainoo’s contract runs until 2027 and Garnacho’s contract until 2028.
But there is a possibility that both players could decide that their future lies away from Old Trafford if they are not offered acceptable terms. Centre-back Victor Lindelof will be allowed to leave the club in January if a suitable offer is received.
The Swedish international was forced out in the first half of United’s 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham earlier this month in what was his first start under Amorim after recovering from a muscle injury.
His contract expires at the end of the season.
There could be a conflict between manager Ruben Amorim and owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who proves he is no stranger to saving. Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho will be sold if they do not agree to a new deal reasonably quickly.
