English Goal believes Carlos Baleba is the necessary player who needs to be brought to Old Trafford to sail up as a title contender. Brighton are holding on to the 21-year-old by slapping a £100 million price tag on the football-genius defensive midfielder. This has led United to work on another option that has been on the list for a few months, but here too the door is slammed shut.
It should not be easy to “rap” players at the start of the season, Manchester United have a negative tradition of being behind. Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko in place are very strong reinforcements, but must be followed up with the signing of a defensive midfielder who can step in to manage the shop in the middle. Carlos Baleba has the potential, as does Morten Hjulmand.

The Dane has been a true leader as captain at Sporting, inked The Sun claims United will now try to sign Hjulmand if it becomes impossible to persuade Brighton about Baleba, but A Bola reports this is a project the United management can save themselves from.
According to the Portuguese media, the Sporting management is determined not to sell any more players from the first eleven. Hjulmand has a buyout clause of 80 million euros, so the door closes on that. The door is completely locked with the fact that this clause expired on June 15.
Sorry, United, no chance.
