Ruben Amorim needs a short break after the end of the season. It has to be short, if Manchester United are to have any chance of cutting down on their rivals’ lead in the Premier League. Amorim also needs the players, who are on to next season, to land properly this summer and have an optimal pre-season. The United management needs income, so there will be little of that.

On Tuesday, United confirmed that the squad will travel to Malaysia, then Hong Kong. This happens right after the end of the season, with the press on right after. Match at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia with a capacity of 80,000, on May 28, two days later to Hong Kong for the stadium with 40,000.

This will be a big moment for many United supporters willing to pay in Asia, but for the supporters at home, who have struggled through a miserable season at Old Trafford, this is a big deal.

A possible Europa League final will be played on May 21. The last Premier League game against Aston Villa will be played on May 25. Not exactly many days before a long-haul flight to Asia for matches.

Here is a selection of domestic United supporters’ reaction to the news:

One United fan, @majorlaw2008, warned on X about potentially repeating the mistakes of last summer, when Erik ten Hag saw a number of players suffer from injuries before the start of the new season: “How about prioritising tactics and match fitness of the players. Remember what happened to Ten Hag last pre-season.”

Another fan, @TheNorthernLad_, bluntly wrote, “Money money money.”

While, @charlesmarr22, added: “Terrible. No wonder half the team is injured.”

Meanwhile, @left_unheard said, “This must be banned. Managers moan about fatigue and player welfare, and then 2 days after the end of the season they fly to the other side of the world for a friendly match in 30 degree heat just for money. Fans are tired of this and the over-commercialization of football.”
