This winter, Chelsea management considered making a bid for Alejandro Garnacho. It was clear that the Argentine youngster was not happy with his demotion in the hierarchy after Ten Hag’s exit. Chelsea then started thinking about pushing a player into a swap with United. It didn’t happen, but now the local newspaper in Manchester reports that the London club has aired the idea to the United management.
Manchester Evening News sources report Chelsea are once again working to clear the way for a Garnacho signing, with the 20-year-old heavily linked with exit, helped by his Instagram photo from Ibiza wearing Rashford’s Aston Villa shirt. The English media reports that United are nevertheless very lukewarm to a swap.

Chistopher Nkunku has never had his real breakthrough at Stamford Bridge since his £52m move from RB Leipzig in 2023, Chelsea have explored the possibility of a swap where Nkunku and Garnacho go their separate ways.
Not surprisingly, United have made it clear that this is not an option. The possibility of signing Nkunku was also open this winter, when United were not interested in the French striker, even though their own strikers had shown something close to scoring in the Premier League.
The Manchester Evening News reports strikers such as Viktor Gyökeres and Hugo Ekitike are higher up on the wish list than Nkunku.

Not a bad word about Nkunku, but a puzzled 57 games since 2023 and 17 goals, 6 of them in the Premier League, is definitely not the striker Manchester United now need.
