On Sunday, Jadon Sancho was on the pitch and put in the solo goal that started the recovery to victory against Tottenham. The outcast Manchester United player has once again shown he has a lot in him. Legend Ian Wright went so far as to describe it as “back to the Jadon Sancho we know”. Andy Cole believed in September, when it became clear Chelsea had negotiated a rent and an obligation to buy, that this could be “a steal” for the London club. Now it looks like the United legend is right.

Jadon Sancho never found his place at Manchester United. Then came the loan to Borussia Dortmund last season who went straight to the Champions League final, the 24-year-old has also occasionally shown match form at Chelsea on loan. The conflict that has kept Sancho out of United’s games and an impossible return to the United squad was linked to Erik ten Hag, but even with the Dutchman gone, Sancho is in great form lost to United.

According to Goal, Chelsea negotiated a lease with an obligation to buy between £20 million and £25 million. For Manchester United, this was a way out on Deadline Day, with Ten Hag releasing Sancho, while securing some of the £73 million the club invested in the player in 2021.

When United signed the contract with Chelsea, United legend Andy Cole quickly went out and stated that this could be “the big steal”.

-Manchester United paid over £70 million for Jadon three years ago, so that’s a lot of money lost, isn’t it? Jadon is a very talented boy and he’s still only 24 years old, so if Chelsea can get the best out of him like Borussia Dortmund did last season, then it would be a steal. There’s so much talent and so much locked potential in there, so if Chelsea can unlock that and get him to the top of his potential, then it would ultimately be a very, very good deal for them,” Cole said, according to Goal back in September.

Three, four months later, Andy Cole is about to be proven right. Enzo Maresca and Chelsea have found the key that unlocks their potential.
