After failing to qualify for European football next season, Manchester United will need to raise money to be able to pick up all their summer goals. Marcus Rashford is one player they want to sell, but one of his potential buyers has now dropped out.

Ruben Amorim does not count on Rashford, and therefore a sale is wanted this summer. One possible way this could happen was by triggering the purchase clause in Manchester United’s loan deal with Aston Villa. Rashford spent the second half of last season with the 27-year-old team.

Aston Villa confirm they will not sign Marcus Rashford

But this is no longer an option, as Aston Villa have confirmed that Rashford will officially return to Manchester United from Tuesday, when the loan deal between the two clubs expires.

Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi, who were on loan from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea respectively, will also leave Villa Park, as well as goalkeeper Robin Olsen and defender Kortney Hause, who both have contracts expiring at midnight.

Aston Villa had a £40 million option for Rashford, but it’s no surprise that they have chosen not to exercise it. He did relatively well during his loan spell, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 17 appearances across all competitions, but it wasn’t enough to justify such a large outlay.

Manchester United will now have to look for another club to buy Rashford. Newcastle are considering a deal, but it is more likely that he will end up at Barcelona, which is the club he wants to play for this summer. However, this will be a big problem for them at Old Trafford, as the Spanish champions are only considering a loan.
