Michael Carrick is in a strong position to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager, but according to Marco Materazzi, another and very promising young manager would be willing to listen to an offer from the Red Devils.

The United management hoped for success when they appointed Carrick as interim manager in January, but he has probably exceeded all expectations. The 44-year-old manager has made United strong contenders for the Champions League by taking 23 out of a possible 30 points in the Premier League – while top-four rivals such as Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea have failed.

Manchester United are currently in third place behind Arsenal and Manchester City, but with seven games left, they have a strong grip on a place in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Fabregas ‘would consider’ Manchester United offer

According to former Italy international Materazzi, Cesc Fabregas would be willing to discuss the United job if contacted. Sources state that United management, in addition to Carrick, is also considering Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and Portugal’s Roberto Martínez – both set to lead their nations in the 2026 World Cup in the summer.

GMS writes that Manchester United are ready to make contact with alternatives to Carrick as early as this month. Fabregas could be a dark horse in the race for the job, and despite his previous ties to Arsenal and Chelsea, he will be willing to consider a takeover at Old Trafford.

Materazzi states:
“If Manchester United asked Cesc Fabregas, he would think about it. Also Chelsea. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all very big teams in the Premier League, but Como is a club with a lot of money. I don’t know if Fabregas will try to stay one more year to take Como to the Champions League and show what he can do.

Could be difficult to leave Como

It could be difficult for Fabregas to leave Como right now, Materazzi points out, as they are currently in fourth place in Serie A and are on their way to Champions League qualification.

Why United should consider Fabregas

While the Spaniard may not be at the top of United’s wish list, he should at least be considered after the fantastic job he has done at Como. Sitting fourth in only his second season back in Serie A shows just how remarkable the 38-year-old coach has performed. Players like Nico Paz have flourished under his leadership.

Fabregas has been referred to as the “next elite coach” by Como scout Ben Mattinson, and all indications are that he will have a very successful managerial career. Whether it will start at Old Trafford in the next few months remains to be seen – but after the job he has done in Italy, he should definitely be on the club’s radar.

On Monday, there will be an away meeting for Como who are set for Champions League play next season, they travel to Bluenergy Stadium to face Udinese.
