Michael Carrick replaced Amorim in January and was set to lead the team for the rest of the season.
Under Carrick’s guidance, Manchester United have had a fantastic recovery, beating the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.
Despite losing the game to Newcastle United, the club’s rise and form have led to demands that Carrick should be considered for the job full-time.
However, it is believed that several high-profile managers are in the running, including Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner.
Not to mention Julian Nagelsmann, who has been described as a “mastermind” in a previous Sky Sports report.
However, according to Football Insider, Carrick is still ahead of Nagelsmann in the race to be hired as their next permanent manager.
Nagelsmann is currently preparing Germany’s World Cup campaign at this summer’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Although he has a contract until 2028, Manchester United have expressed interest in recruiting him before the 2026/27 season. He is believed to be open to taking the Manchester United job after the World Cup.
However, the report claims that although the 38-year-old is on the club’s radar, he is not their first choice.
Carrick is still in the “driver’s seat” to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager after impressing since taking over from Amorim.

Speaking publicly about the former Red Devils midfielder for the first time since his appointment, Sir Jim Ratcliffe praised the 44-year-old’s tenure as boss.
“He’s doing an excellent job, yes, absolutely,” he told Sky Sports News.
But Ratcliffe refused to be tempted to answer whether he would hire Carrick full-time, adding, “No, don’t go into that.”
Carrick has improved Manchester United’s performance on the pitch and has inspired a Champions League chase.
At the time of writing, they are in third place in the table, which will result in Champions League qualification.
