Erik ten Hag got his favourite goalkeeper Andre Onana in 2023. Two years later, the Cameroonian international goalkeeper has yet to convince between the sticks. After another season with a range from world-class saves to solid and unforced goalkeeping blunders, with the latter in the majority, few believed a few months ago that Onana will guard the cage next season. Now, United’s demands could scare away what there is of potential buyers.
Onana is a good goalkeeper, but not the one Manchester United need now, at least not as a first-choice goalkeeper. Monaco were reported to be very interested in Onana last month, but according to the Daily Mail, the Monaco management turned around when United’s price demands became known. That is £30 million (United paid £47.5 million). The English newspaper claims that neither Monaco nor any other club have signalled they are willing to pay this for Onana. Thus, it looks like Manchester United will start another season with Onana between the sticks, the newspaper reports.
No wonder when the 29-year-old’s market value has dropped to 25 million euros (transfermarkt).
