It seems as if talks between Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa and the Uruguayan Football Association have been going on forever, but the first contacts are said to have come quite immediately after the World Cup in Qatar.

Have been talking for four months!

National teams are nothing new for Bielsa, who has managed both Argentina and Chile. The 67-year-old has not been in work since he was fired by Leeds just over a year ago.

It is ESPN that reports that Bielsa is “very close” to becoming the new national team manager for Uruguay. According to reports, the Uruguayan Football Association has sent a formal contract proposal to the 67-year-old, after previously verbally agreeing the terms of a deal.

Thus, the whole thing is expected to become official shortly.

Marcelo Bielsa has previously coached Argentina and Chile.
