There is little doubt that Marcus Rashford is at full speed on his way out of the gates at Old Trafford. – He knows where he wants to go and the club he wants is better next stop than Arsenal seen through Manchester United’s glasses. But there is a big problem.

Marcus Rashford, who was back in the matchday squad but on the bench throughout the crushing home defeat to Newcastle on Boxing Day, has admitted he is “ready for a new challenge”.

The winter transfer window is open and several managers are convinced they can do a better job, with Marcus Rashford than both former manager Erik ten Hag and current Ruben Amorim can do.

Arsenal man Mikel Arteta is one of them, they have already signalled late this autumn what they are willing to pay.

With the January transfer window now open, the Man United star has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Arsenal have been touted as a potential destination, with a report detailing how much they are willing to pay for the unfavourable forward.

However, Rashford wants to sign for Barcelona rather than any other team, according to Alex Crook.

A potential move to Barca could be difficult to navigate as the La Liga side are currently unable to register new players, with summer signing Dani Olmo unregistered.

Olmo was signed from RB Leipzig for a reported fee of £51 million. He has played 11 league games for Barca this season through a temporary registration, as they could not meet the league’s salary limit.

But the club failed to meet a deadline to register Olmo for the rest of the season. – the only way now is if they manage to register in the “normal way”

So, if Rashford signed for Barca this month, he would hardly be able to represent them this season due to the club’s registration issues. His future is still overshadowed by uncertainty, with the player taking to social media to address allegations that he has held talks with an agency to speed up the Man United transfer.

Saying he hasn’t spoken to any agencies, Crook said: “I think he’s connected several (agencies), including CAA Stellar, to negotiate a move.

“He’s been represented by his brother, Dwaine Maynard, I think if there’s any move, no matter who’s doing the deal, Maynard will certainly want to be a big part of it.

“Stellar is one of the largest agencies in the country. So while Rashford himself may not have spoken to Stellar, I’ve had good authority that people acting on his behalf have had those conversations.”
