Mario Balotelli sent a brutal message to Patrick Vieira after he was sacked as Genoa manager, saying that “Karma is a b****”
The Premier League legend was sacked as Genoa manager after less than a year in the position. Not surprisingly, the club is last in Serie A after a very difficult start to the season with only 3 points after 9 games.
Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira sacked after delivering yet another managerial flop
Balotelli and Vieira have a chequered past and have faced each other a number of times. The Italian striker played under Vieira in Nice before joining Genoa in October 2024 – one month before the Frenchman followed suit. Although it was Alberto Gilardino who was responsible for Balotelli’s arrival, it was Vieira who coached the striker before he left the Italian club in the summer.
During their time together in France, Vieira suggested that Balotelli’s mindset “is not made for team sports” and that “it’s very difficult for me to work with him”. Balotelli then got very little playing time under Vieira during their joint spell at Genoa last season.

After Vieira was fired, the ex-Manchester City star took to Instagram with a long message aimed at Vieira. He wrote on Instagram:
“Karma is a b**** (Karma is a bitch).”
“God sees everything and takes care of the rest. Now Genoa can finally focus on people who really like the environment, the supporters and the club crest, and who really believe that Genoa deserves to be at the top.”
“The excellent work done by Gilardino and Zangrillo was not in vain. It was simply exploited in a selfish and dishonest way by those who succeeded them, taking advantage of what they had built up with tirelessness, respect, and passion.”
“They took advantage of Gilardino and Zangrillo’s enormous work, their commitment and devotion to these colors, without really understanding their value.”
The news of Vieira’s departure came just months after he signed a new contract with the club amid rumours linked to Inter Milan.
When the club confirmed the resignation, they wrote: “Genoa CFC announces that Patrick Vieira is no longer the coach of the first team.”
“The club would like to thank the coach and his staff for the dedication and professionalism they have shown throughout their work and wish them the best of luck in their future careers.”
“The technical responsibility for the first team has been temporarily handed over to Roberto Murgita, assisted by Domenico Criscito.”
Genoa play their next match on Monday when they travel to face Sassuolo in Serie A.
