The former Manchester United striker left the club last summer and landed at Marseille after a loan spell in La Liga. Mason Greenwood delivers on the pitch and has attracted interest from several clubs.
Mason Greenwood has once again sparked interest from Napoli, and a double reunion with former Manchester United colleagues could be possible if the Italian giants resume their pursuit of the player. The former United academy player left the club in the summer of 2023 after United concluded a six-and-a-half-month investigation and concluded that it “would be most appropriate for him” to resume his career at another club.

Greenwood had been charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, as well as violence. He has always denied all the accusations. Greater Manchester Police announced on February 2 that the cases against Greenwood had been dropped.
The 24-year-old attacker joined Marseille the following summer and has made 54 appearances for the French club to date. His stay in France has caught the attention of several clubs, with Calcio Mercato reporting that Napoli are among those interested.
However, it is said that Marseille value him at over 60 million euros. Antonio Conte’s team tried to sign Greenwood before he left for Marseille.
At the time, The Athletic reported that Napoli had made contact regarding a transfer, but without success.
Whether they return to negotiations remains to be seen, but if a transfer were to happen in the near future, Greenwood would be reunited with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.
The latter is currently on a season-long loan to Napoli, with a mandatory purchase clause included in the deal. If Napoli qualify for the Champions League, he will be bought for £38 million.
Both players have excelled in Italy, where McTominay has established himself as a mainstay in midfield. Last season, he was named player of the year for the 2024/25 season.
As for Greenwood, he is an important player for Roberto De Zerbi at the Orange Vélodrome, and any potential January transfer will prove difficult.
“He has the qualities to become one of the best players in the world,” said the Italian coach. “He’s incredibly talented, but he still needs to be even more useful to the team.”
“I want to protect him because I don’t like to see him being criticised – he’s scored a lot of goals, he’s never been away from training, and he still has room for growth.”
Greenwood completed a move from United to Marseille in a deal worth up to €31.6 million.
