On Friday, Arne Slot confirmed that Darwin Nunez was on his way away from Liverpool. Many took this as a sign that an agreement between Liverpool and Newcastle was getting closer to an Alexander Isak transfer. Eddie Howe also stated on Friday that Isak’s situation meant that it was out of the question to have the Swede as part of the Newcastle squad on the training ground. On Saturday, the confirmation came that Manchester United had finally landed a deal with RB Leipzig for the striker with world-class potential, Benjamin Sesko. So far, it suggests that the two arch-rivals will start the season with a new striker, but Liverpool fans may end up looking far for Isak.

lAccording to The Atheltic, Alexander Isak has been told by Newcastle management that he will not be allowed to leave the club this summer. The contract runs until 2028, Newcastle are anything but in a hurry to lose their top scorer. And the response? The English media claims Isak was furious after being told no transfer this summer.

Now the 25-year-old is doing self-training, but Eddie Howe’s statement on Friday now has a different content. Isak does not train outside the squad because the transfer process is ongoing, but because he has to digest the disappointment and reprogram so that it will not be Liverpool next.

“He’s here, so of course he has a future at Newcastle. From our side, we would very much like to have him back in the squad, but the situation has to be right for that to happen,” Newcastle stated on Friday.

Then we will see what Liverpool do, the week before the start of the season.
