Mikaela Shiffrin finished the season with another record. On Sunday, the American scored her record-breaking 21st victory in the giant slalom at the World Cup finals. Moreover, this is not the only record Shiffrin set that day!
In the World Cup finals, Mikaela Shiffrin won her 21st downhill in the giant slalom. Thus, she overtook the Swiss Vreni Schneider in the number of wins in the giant slalom after equaling the Swiss the week before by winning her 20th downhill in the giant slalom. As if that wasn’t enough, on Sunday Shiffrin also set a personal best of 2,206 World Cup points from 31 starts this season, two points more than her tally from the 2018-19 season when she competed in 26 races. Only one female skier has scored more points in one season. It was Tina Maze who finished her 2012-13 season with 2414 points.
Shiffrin secured slalom and giant slalom titles this season and increased the all-time record for career wins to 88. Shiffrin earned over $1 million for the season. She became the first female alpine skier to earn over a million in a season.
