The Arsenal players and supporters love their coach. Mikel Arteta has won trust both on the pitch and in the stands. It is therefore “a slap in the face” when grumpy and football expert Roy Keane thinks the Gunners must get rid of Arteta in order to win the world’s toughest league.

First, to what has made Arteta so great with Arsenal supporters. In Premier League history, only ten managers have won 100 or more games out of the first 200. Mikel Arteta is listed with 118, only beaten by Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp and Alex Ferguson. In the last two seasons, Areteta has led Arsenal to an average of 86.5 points in the Premier League, the highest average in club history.

In the 2022/23 season, Arsenal missed the roof in the second half of the season, last season it held all the way, but still two points behind City. This season, City are unhooked, but Liverpool make sure that Arsenal cannot lift the trophy in the world’s toughest league this season either.

After the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, Roy Keane was asked if he thinks Arsenal can win the Premier League in the 2025/26 season with Arteta as coach.

-no. Why should I? What makes you think that the manager can do that? They’ve been close in recent years, but [Manchester] City will be strong next year and I’m sure Liverpool will be too. Where is the evidence to think they can do that?”, Keane begins to Sky Sports.

-Bringing in a striker would help, but have they got the right mentality? Has the manager? You see a different side to them when they win every week, but they all get upset when they lose. I don’t think getting a striker in who is going to score 20 goals a season will necessarily be the difference… It’s very challenging, but it should be about winning titles,” the United legend grumbled.

Acid reflux from Keane, or does the former United captain have a point?
