There is no one who comes close to delivering performances at such a high level as Mohamed Salah does these days. – He thrives at Anfield and his wife thrives at Liverpool. – After the last masterclass against West Ham, he drops a bombshell that makes us question what the bosses are thinking about.
As usual, there was both a goal and an assist from the Egyptian superstar in the 5 – 0 win over a chanceless West Ham on Sunday. Mohamed Salah has given an interesting answer to a question regarding his Liverpool contract situation.
Never before has anyone scored at least 20 goals in eight consecutive seasons. Before Mohamed Salah, then.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in the summer and could in a few days negotiate with other clubs outside England.
Van Dijk (33) has been quite tight-lipped about his situation, while Alexander-Arnold (26) has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Salah is the most outspoken of the trio.
After Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Southampton at St Mary’s on November 24, he discussed his future with journalists gathered outside the stadium and admitted that he felt “more inside than outside”.
“You know I’ve been at the club for many years,” Salah said outside St Mary’s.
“There’s no club like this, but at the end of the day, it’s not in my hands. Like I said before, it’s December, and I haven’t gotten anything about my future yet.”
When asked if he was disappointed with the situation, he replied, “Of course … Let’s wait and see.”
Now he has given an update!
On Sunday, Salah scored and provided two assists during Liverpool’s 5-0 win against West Ham, putting Arne Slot’s club eight points ahead of Nottingham Forest in second place. The Merseyside club have played one game less.
But all eyes were on the Egyptian’s interview with Sky Sports after the match. And inevitably, the conversation turned to his future.
When asked if he “hopes to be able to give some good news soon”, the 32-year-old gave a straight answer.
“We are a long way from [agreeing a new contract],” Salah said.
“But again, I don’t want to put anything in the media and people start saying things. But nothing [has] really moved, and now I’m focused on the team.”
Despite the uncertainty regarding his future, he has not let this affect his game in a negative way. Salah currently sits at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts with 17 goals from 18 league games along with his 13 assists.
He has also climbed to 10th place for all time assists in Premier League history with 81. (Ryan Giggs is 1st with 161)
Next up, Liverpool will host Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. The match will be Liverpool’s first of eight games in the first month of 2025.
