It is never popular when a player, as Sandro Tonali has done, says he dreams of playing for a different club than he actually does, but in his defense, it is his childhood club.

Sandro Tonali dreams of a comeback at AC Milan.

Sandro Tonali made headlines last week when he gave an open answer about his long-term future at Newcastle after his team’s Champions League match against Athletic Bilbao. “This is a difficult question (whether he will stay at the club for long, editor’s note) Because in football you have to think year by year. I don’t want to promise that I’m going to stay here for ten years, but then leave here in two, three, four or five years,” he told Sky Sports.

“Last summer was tough for us and for Alex (Isak), but that’s football. If you get another option for your life, at another club, you have to think through everything in the world of football.”

The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera has followed up on the case.

The newspaper writes that a transfer during the current season is unlikely, but in the future, Tonali dreams of returning to AC Milan. This is the club he grew up a supporter of, and with whom he won a Serie A championship in the 2021-22 season. In the background, Juventus are also interested in Tonali.

The problem for both clubs is the financial part. Neither Milan nor Juventus can match what Tonali earns at Newcastle, or what the English club would want in transfer fees. In addition, Sky Sports reports that information about an expiration clause in the Italian’s contract is not correct.

Thus, it remains to be seen how the future develops for Tonali.
