When Antonio Conte brought Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan from Manchester United, the Belgian got a real restart of his career. His stay at Old Trafford was not a success, but with Conte, the power forward thundered as one of Europe’s most goal-scoring strikers. Last season, Lukaku and Conte were reunited, this time at Napoli. New success and Serie A title, the Belgian with 14 goals and 10 assists in the league. Less than a year later, the mood is completely different.

Lukaku has had his season ruined with a hamstring injury and lack of match fitness. 64 minutes on the match arena was still enough for Lukaku to be called up for national team duty for Belgium. Here he cancelled last week due to a new injury.

This week, he is still in Belgium, according to Belgian media. There he continues his rehabilitation and opened up yesterday about how he has not felt well either physically or mentally lately. Italian media reported Lukaku has been given an ultimatum by Napoli to return to the club on Tuesday at the latest.

Tuesday has come without Lukaku back, the club is threatening disciplinary action and that Lukaku’s place in the first team could be revoked after he failed to show up at the club’s training facility on Tuesday.

“SSC Napoli reports that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call to return to training. The club reserves the right to decide whether appropriate disciplinary action should be taken, as well as whether the player’s activity in the squad should continue permanently,” the club writes.

This smells like the end of Lukaku’s game for Napoli. The Belgian has a habit of ending up with conflicted exits from his clubs. This sounds like the start of the next one.
