After Scott McTominay left Manchester United in a move to Napoli in Serie A, there was not only criticism that they “let him go”, but also, once he was sold, that it was so cheap.

Napoli have put a new and higher price tag on Scott McTominay after his World Cup heroics.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been linked with a return to the Premier League. The huge sum that Napoli will demand for star player Scott McTominay has been revealed.

Life couldn’t have gone better for McTominay since he left his childhood club Manchester United in August 2024 to join Serie A giants Napoli.

In his first season in Italy, midfielder Antonio Conte’s team led their team to the Serie A title, winning the league’s MVP award and securing 18th place in the Ballon d’Or rankings in the process.

To top it all off, the 28-year-old scored a spectacular volley against Denmark and helped Scotland sensationally secure direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup for the first time since 1998.

But McTominay’s impressive form has not gone unnoticed, and several clubs are reportedly interested in signing him next year. Napoli have now named their prize.

When Napoli signed McTominay in the summer of last year, they reportedly paid a sum in excess of £25 million to United.

However, given his impressive form and importance to Conte’s team, sources close to the Scot have reportedly claimed that only a ‘perfect’ offer with a significant price tag could lure him away from Napoli in the near future.

“Scott’s heart is still beating for the Premier League,” a source revealed to TeamTalk. “But it has to be right – the right club, the right project, the right role. He’s not chasing a paycheck; He is building a legacy.”

Premier League leaders Arsenal and his former club United are among the clubs said to be considering a move for McTominay. But according to a club source, any bid below 80 million euros will be “laughed out of the meeting room”.

“We’re building something special here,” the source added. “Scott is thriving—why would they bother with it?”

Rumours about McTominay’s future at Napoli have been following the midfielder for months, with Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke recently hinting that the Scot would seize the chance of a shocking comeback to Old Trafford.

Because of this, McTominay chose to address the rumours in May, just before the summer transfer window, declaring: “I’m happy at Napoli and I work for supporters who give me something emotional. That’s very important.”

Barcelona are also on the ball, they will use former Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford as a lure.
