Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian football genius who welcomed young Erling Haaland to the world’s toughest league in 2022 by giving the Norwegian the league’s best working conditions for a striker. It was a historic season for Haaland, City and of course De Bruyne as well. City chose to “look ahead” this spring. For the 33-year-old, who wasn’t done chasing titles, the Champions League and playing at the highest level, this means Serie A. At least that’s the plan, but changes came during Monday.

On Monday, transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that a verbal agreement was in place between De Bruyne and Napoli, the Belgian has negotiated a three-year contract with an annual salary of around 6 million euros plus a solid sign-on fee, of course. Tavolieri had caught that the Belgian was going to get on the plane to the port city on Monday for a medical test and signing.

Monday came and Monday passed without more about the Premier League legend’s trip to Italy. Now the same transfer journalist reports that De Bruyne resigned just before departure. The reason is said to be the prioritization of the Belgian national team and World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and Wales.

Does this mean that the Belgian has got cold feet? The Napoli supporters can breathe a sigh of relief. It is reported that the medical test will be carried out directly after the international break.

thanks. We are very much looking forward to seeing McTominay and De Bruyne together rule the attacking midfield in Serie A.
