Manchester United cannot be said to be the winner in the transfer market in recent years. Overpriced veterans or young talents are brought in and placed at the top of the wage hierarchy without delivering, players who have not been successful at Old Trafford are loaned out – successfully – but no club is willing to meet transfer fee or wage demands (Sancho, Antony, Rashford). Now, however, it will be a small upturn for the Red Devils.

Anthony Elanga is the player who was weighed too lightly at United, but has sparkled at Nottingham Forest. In the season with the strong 7th place in the Premier League, the Swede was behind 6 goals and 11 assists in the league. On Friday, the 23-year-old was presented as a Newcastle player.

This means a final upturn for United. According to Sky Sports, United management negotiated a resale clause of between 15 and 20 percent when Elanga moved to Forest in the summer of 2023.

Several media outlets have reported that Newcastle are paying £55 million for the 23-year-old. The calculation thus ends up at between six and eight million pounds for Manchester United’s club coffers. Money that comes in very handy when three or four signings are still not negotiated.
