Last week, United legends Neville, Scholes and Rio Ferdinand finished analysing Erik ten Hag’s football with the Dutchman out. Well not quite, Gary Neville is now using Manchester United’s time under the Dutchman to underline a pervasive problem at United: Signing the wrong players.
Problems are lining up for new manager Ruben Amorim when he arrives at the club in a few days. Commentator and Manchester United legend Gary Neville is known for not sugaring his comments, he doesn’t do that now either: There is only one Manchester United player who has exceeded expectations in the last decade,” Neville told Sky Sports.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville insisted that Amorim ‘must get the best out of the players’ to have any chance of surviving the managerial graveyard that Man Utd have become.
“He has to get the best out of the players. The players must take responsibility for what has happened in the last 10 years. The club has signed many players that other clubs wanted, and when these players have arrived at Manchester United, they deteriorated. Why is that? It could be the coach, it could be the players, it could be the environment is too big for them. Whatever it is, it has to be changed, because if he doesn’t change it, he will fall in the same way that the rest of them have done, Neville doses.
Neville went so far as to suggest that captain Bruno Fernandes is the only player signed in the last decade who can be classified as a success and one who exceeded expectations.
“Only really Bruno I can think about in 10 years has signed for the club and done more than I thought he would. I can’t think of any other player. That’s £1.8 billion spent in the last 10 years, that’s one thing that needs to change,” Neville thundered.
Last week, United boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe drew a parallel between the Manchester United squad and a sailboat or Formula 1 car that doesn’t win titles. A statement several United supporters took as a direct criticism of the quality of their own players.
Not exactly promising for Ruben Amorim who is leaving the big success in his home country.
