Liverpool have been closely linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck for several months. It was therefore a downer when reports from Germany came that the 26-year-old and Dortmund had agreed on an extension. This summer, the German international will enter his last year of contract, this should be Liverpool’s opportunity. Now Schlotterbeck talks about a completely different status than an agreement with the Bundesliga club.

Earlier this month, Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed that Schlotterbeck and Dortmund should agree on several things, including contract, salary and a buyout clause. Now all that was missing was the green light from the player himself. Schlotterbeck uses the opportunity after Germany’s match against Ghana to tell what the actual status is.

“I must clearly reject it. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten to that point,” Schlotterbeck begins, according to OneFootball.

“I’m actually surprised by the publicity. I would probably have made a decision in the next few weeks, but I’ve been negotiating with Sebastian for a long time and he’s no longer there at Dortmund.”

Sebastian Kehl is finished as sports director, now it is Ole Book who will negotiate with Schlotterbeck.

“I’ll see what happens. I’m going to have conversations with Ole, but it’s not time yet. It’s a tough situation for BVB fans right now. But it’s not an easy situation for me either,” the centre-back concludes.
