A new twist in the future of the England international.
The battle for Marcus Rashford’s signature has taken a new turn after a club pulled out of their pursuit of the Manchester United player.
After a solid loan spell at Aston Villa in the latter part of the 2024/25 season, Rashford has been linked with a path away from Old Trafford. So far this summer, clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce and several Saudi Arabian teams have shown interest in the 27-year-old.

Your career at United over?
Rashford’s time at United has seemed over since he was excluded from the squad for the Manchester derby alongside Alejandro Garnacho, before his loan spell at Villa Park.
Ruben Amorim went so far as to claim that he would rather play with the club’s 63-year-old goalkeeper coach than the England international last season, despite poor results on the pitch.
After returning to Carrington this week, Rashford has seen his number 10 shirt given to new signing Matheus Cunha – confirming that he will leave the club this summer.
Mourinho rejects reunion
According to reports from MARCA, Jose Mourinho has rejected the possibility of signing Rashford, despite interest from Turkish club Fenerbahce.
It is believed that Rashford’s €18 million salary, combined with his desire to move only to Barcelona, has made Mourinho reject the idea of a reunion with his former player.
In 2019, Mourinho praised Rashford’s attitude – something Amorim now apparently has a lot of trouble with:
“Marcus is a fantastic boy. He is also very down-to-earth, and we love him. We believe in him, and he will have the chances to continue to develop.”
Barcelona “all in” for Rashford
Despite the fact that the new season is fast approaching, it looks like Rashford could finally get his dream move to Catalonia.
According to Sky Sports Germany, after failing to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona have now made Rashford their clear target for the left winger.

While Rashford is still a United player, he is not expected to be part of Amorim’s pre-season preparations due to possible injury concerns.
Sports lawyer Chris Farnell told the Daily Mail:
“Both parties are keeping their negotiating positions as strong as possible, and are proceeding carefully so as not to break the contract. This is a calculated move by the club. The players have not been excluded – the club is not taking any risks at the moment.”
