Jonjo Shelvey. The player with the cool name was almost an institution at Newcastle United. Between 2016 and 2023, the uncompromising midfielder wore the zebra jersey for 202 games. On Friday, Newcastle hail Alexander Isak as the Premier League’s best, the same day comes the confirmation that Shelvey is done with his Turkish club.

Shelvey drew to the heat in Turkey after a guest appearance at Nottingham Forest in 2023, first for Çaykur Rizespor, then for Eyüpspor since August 2024. Two clubs few outside Turkey know about, but still part of the Süper Lig.

It turned out to be a short stay at the latter club for the 32-year-old. After six games, Shelvey is done with Turkey’s currently 4th best club.

This comes as no surprise, as the last game for Jonjo was back at the end of October, but still awkward.

-We have chosen to terminate the contract with Jonjo Shelvey by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Jonjo Shelvey for his contribution to our team and wish him the best of luck in his future career,” the Turkish club said on its website.

What now, Jonjo?
