Nico O’Reilly has made his mark at all ages in Manchester City’s academy, the 19-year-old has been rewarded with four appearances at Pep Guardiola. The special thing about the attacking midfielder’s background is that he could just as well have worn the red United shirt.
“I started playing football when I was three or four. I played for a few different teams, so my mum drove me around from one game to the next,” O’Reilly begins to the Man City podcast.
“The first club that scouted me was actually United, and that’s when City also came into the picture. So did Liverpool and Everton.
Before you sign a contract, you train at all the clubs, so I did that for a while. I had a choice between City and United when I was U8 and U9,” the 19-year-old continues.
“I chose City because the training was far better,” Nico O’Reilly explains.
Ten years later, the England U20 international definitely doesn’t regret his choice.
