A big day for 18-year-old Jonathan Norbye (18) has secured a long-term contract with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
RB Leipzig, which is part of Red Bull’s sports venture, was visited earlier in the day by the head of global football, Jürgen Klopp, who inspired the “aftergrowth” of the club.

Has been the key word, the young Norwegian is rewarded for impressive development at the club and has now signed his first professional contract and with planned registration for the first team for the next Bundesliga season.
This year, like last year, RB Leipzig are on the verge of 4th place in the Bundesliga, but the club lives a little too dangerously, the chance of missing out on games in the Champions League led to Marco Rose being fired at the end of March.
RB Leipzig bought Jonathan Norbye two summers ago for 900,000 euros and now they have given him a new contract for the next three years.
On Wednesday, RB Leipzig announced that the Norwegian talent has signed his first professional contract with the club. The deal binds him to Leipzig until the summer of 2028.
Norbye has been captain of Leipzig’s U19 team since the summer of 2023, and has now been rewarded for his strong development.
- “Jonathan has integrated quickly into the club since he arrived from Norway and has shown a steady positive development in our youth teams,” says RB Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
Described as a complete midfielder
The club especially praises the Norwegian’s:
✔ Game understanding
✔ Technical skills
✔ Physical strength
Norbye has already had a taste of senior football, with his debut for RB Leipzig against Eintracht Frankfurt last season.
- “We see great potential in Jonathan and look forward to following his development further,” Schäfer adds.
Road to the top
Before his transfer to Leipzig, Norbye played for Alta IF. Now the young midfielder is ready for the next step in his career at one of Germany’s most talent-developing clubs.
