We sat on the couch like some big question marks when Alexander Sørloth after scoring two goals was substituted at halftime in Wednesday’s cup match against Elche.
The explanation, we thought at the time, was that Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone, was so sure of winning the game that he no longer needed his very best attacking card.
Now Atlético Madrid report that it was neither Diego Simeone nor Alexander Sorloth who wanted to replace him, but discomfort.
Sørloth scored both of his team’s goals in the first half as Atlético reached the quarter-finals of the cup with a 4-0 win over Elche!
A statement from Atlético Madrid reads: “He was substituted as a precaution due to discomfort. Today he has undergone tests that show that he has a moderate injury”
“He will undergo physiotherapy and training in the gym, and how the injury heals will determine when he is back on the field.
