I dare say that without Eirik Horneland, Brann would have been at least one trip down in the OBOS-Liga.

In the summer of 2021, when Horneland was promoted to interim head coach after only six months as an assistant, there was more party at the Brann stadium when there was no game than while there were actually points to create a good atmosphere.

After two second places in the Eliteserien in a row, Eirik Horneland leaves a Bergen team in good condition. – Several media write that he wants to go abroad and now the first opportunity has appeared, it is just a question of whether there is “enough abroad”.

There is a vacancy in Brøndby after the club yesterday got rid of Jesper Sørensen as their head coach.

Tipsbladet highlights a short list of candidates and believes that the 49-year-old former Brann and Rosenborg coach is relevant. “Maybe the best tip right now?”, the newspaper writes and speculates that it cannot be just a coincidence that Horneland quits Brann and says that he has a new job abroad within a month or two – without actually having anything concrete on hand.

Another Norwegian is also among the five “candidates”. Per-Mathias Høgmo is mentioned in connection with several vacancies a day, most recently the Icelandic national team job.

“Høgmo will in many ways be a safe choice of Brøndby, but there is also something that speaks against it,” the Danes point to Høgmo’s age of 65. “Not exactly a spring hare”.

Danish Lars Knudsen is also mentioned as a possibility. He was a substitute coach for the Danish national team earlier this autumn, and is said to have ambitions for a head coaching job. He is currently an assistant at German side Augsburg, a club owned by Global Football Holdings (GFH).

GFH also owns Brøndby, and Max is informed by sources in Denmark that precisely this should be an argument for Knudsen to be a strong candidate for the vacant Brøndby job.

Mike Tullberg (U19 coach at Dortmund) and Kasper Hjulmand (former Danish national team manager) are also on Tipsbladet’s list.
Brøndby is also looking for a new sporting director, and there are many indications that this will be in place before a possible new coach is hired. According to Danish Viaplay’s football expert Peter Sørensen, the new sporting director could be in place as early as Thursday this week.
