Aston Villa are surging on. Admittedly out of the Champions League, but gave PSG a real shock at Villa Park to near-advancement. In the Premier League, Unai Emery has really stuck to the Champions League ticket. However, there is a luxury problem that accompanies success, a situation that could present Liverpool with a great opportunity.

Last season, Ollie Watkins was one of the hottest strikers in the Premier League. The England international made his mark on the Villa attack with his 19 goals and 15 assists in the series. Watkins has continued this season as well and shows he is a striker who can deliver consistently, season after season. Liverpool lacks this in their strikers.

So why should Watkins look away from his success at Aston Villa? The answer is Marcus Rashford. Since the United player’s move on loan, Watkins has been pushed away from his natural position as a first striker. Against Newcastle on Saturday, he was back from the start, and what happens? Watkins scored after one minute.

According to Football-Insider’s sources, Liverpool have Watkins as an alternative to Alexander Isak signing, and are therefore following the Villa striker closely.

The English media reports a permanent transfer for Marcus Rashford could make Watkins push for an exit this summer. Arsenal made a £40 million bid for Watkins in January, but were rejected. This summer, Liverpool could face more flexibility from Villa management if Watkins himself wants to leave Villa Park.

Thanks to Manchester United’s Rashford.
