Uzbek central defender Abdukodir Khusanov has signed with Manchester City.

Speaking with mancity.com, Abdukodir Khusanov is excited by the challenge of playing for Manchester City. He believes he is more than ready to play for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Khusanov said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club that I have enjoyed watching for a long time. This squad is full of the best players in the world, and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them. And, of course, Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever, and I am so excited to learn from him and improve my game even more.”

The club paid €40 million to Lens for the 20-year-old. Khusanov’s contract with City runs until the summer of 2029.

Khusanov becomes the first player from Uzbekistan in Premier League history.

Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, said Khusanov is already “very intelligent, as well as being strong, aggressive and extremely quick”.

Guardiola is strengthening his squad this month after a difficult run of results which has left his side fourth in the table – 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
