The biggest reason why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man to take over Manchester United again is not only that he knows the club well and can step directly into the role of manager, but that he simply likes people and wants to help players and support staff to improve.
This is in sharp contrast to the many ice-cold rule riders who have been given responsibility after the best manager of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, retired over a decade ago.
Taste! Chelsea have a new coach in place
In addition to being a generally very skilled coach and motivator, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an extreme expertise in how to score goals. – It is not without reason that his nickname is “Baby-Faced Assassin”.
Since Erik ten Hag’s last full season at Old Trafford ended with 8th place in the Premier League, we have been calling for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He was named United’s best manager since Ferguson by Goal – and that was before the 2024/25 season. When Ruben Amorim took over in November 2024, United plummeted like a stone down the table and were on their way to relegation. It ended with 15th place, a historic low for one of the world’s biggest clubs. “Time to call Solskjaer” has become a regular with sporten.com, and now everything is in place for his return.
When Sean Dyche took over Nottingham Forest from Ange Postecoglou in October, the acclaimed England “rugged” coach said he was tired of “fashionista” coaches who come with their fixed philosophy and will entertain and play “right” football at all costs. For Dyche, it’s about taking one game at a time, adapting to the opponent – and doing whatever it takes to win that day. That’s the recipe in the world’s toughest league!

Dyche’s criticism was directed at Postecoglou, who at both Tottenham and Forest insisted on playing in one particular way. Earlier, Dyche had also come out against Ruben Amorim and jokingly pointed out that he himself had won several games as United manager.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer follows the same philosophy as Dyche. At the end of the day, it’s about winning the game, not how you played. When Solskjaer surprisingly took over from Jose Mourinho and assembled a confident United team, he had a clear belief in how the club could turn the season around.
The Red Devils immediately stopped losing. Solskjaer led the team to a strong 6th place and Europa League qualification – and laid the foundation for next season’s 3rd place, and then 2nd place.
Solskjaer built on the strengths United already had, spending more time creating calm, energy and winning belief than changing the basic idea of the game. This is exactly what United need in 2025/26. The difference is that Amorim’s principled belief in 3-4-3 must be adapted to the opponent. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is anything but a “fashionista” coach – he gets the job done.
These results came despite and not because of a lousy management of the club where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer really didn’t get what he wanted with his priorities: 🚨 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pushed for the signing of Erling Braut Haaland, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham. Instead, Manchester United brought in Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek and 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm, Manchester United should bring back Marcus Rashford from loan (with an option to buy) at Barcelona and bring the frozen out Kobbie Mainoo back into the fold!
According to the BBC, the United management has decided to wait until the summer to hire a permanent head coach, and will now bring in a replacement to save the season. No one has a better starting point to succeed in this than Solskjaer. This is not a Chelsea that brings in Frank Lampard as a substitute – a legend who proved himself too lightweight as head coach. Solskjaer is considered the club’s best manager since Ferguson, a rock at the club.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has no doubt that Solskjaer himself is ready.
“Solskjaer is more than willing to return to United and he would like to help the club again, regardless of the length of his contract,” Romano says in a new YouTube video.
For us, everything is ready for a Solskjaer return.
Marcus Rashford bombshell drops hours after Amorim sack
Marcus Rashford, who has spent his entire life at Manchester United, was loaned to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The left-winger, who tends to divide fans, has once again become a hot topic of debate after United sacked Ruben Amorim. The 28-year-old left United to join the Spanish giants on loan last summer, after falling down Amorim’s priority list.
The discussion takes off after the firing
Since his move to Spain, he has regained much of his old form, with seven goals and eleven assists in 25 appearances for Hansi Flick’s men.
Barcelona are currently at the top of La Liga, four points ahead of rivals Real Madrid. While Rashford seems to be enjoying himself at Barcelona, Amorim’s time as United boss is over.
The club announced in a statement: “Ruben Amorim has left his position as head coach of Manchester United. With the club in sixth place in the Premier League, the management has reluctantly concluded that now is the right time for a change. This gives the team the best possible chance of achieving as high a position as possible.”
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
In the wake of Amorim’s departure, Rashford’s future has become a big topic.
Former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believed Rashford could still have a future at the club.
He told TNT Sports: “I hope Marcus comes back, because he’s a special player. I don’t know what happened between Marcus and Ruben, but there’s no doubt about his talent.”
“Marcus shouldn’t end up in a position where he had to bear all the responsibility. In our team, he would be the third or fourth player, so a lot of the pressure would be taken off his shoulders.”
Hargreaves added, “Too much emphasis was placed on these young boys being the main characters, and they should never have ended up in that position at the age of 20. They needed a striker of 26-28 years old so that the youngsters could learn the game like everyone did before at the club.”
“I think Marcus is a super talent and the club can use him. And with Kobbie Mainoo, I think he’ll be right back in the team playing with four in defence.”
