While the Norwegian press writes about Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer one day taking over as national team manager for Norway, there are several opportunities that are much closer than that.
The former Manchester United striker and manager appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Overlap alongside his ex-teammates Neville and Keane.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already got a new job, despite being sacked by Besiktas just over two months ago. Solskjaer, 52, was released from his duties at the Istanbul club in August, despite leading them to a fourth-place finish in the 2024/25 season.
After a defeat against Lausanne in the Conference League playoffs, his time in Turkey was still over, and the former Norwegian international was dismissed. This was the 52-year-old’s fifth coaching role since 2011, after Solskjaer started his coaching career in his native Norway with Molde before arriving at the then Premier League club Cardiff in 2014.
A year later, he returned to Molde before taking on the job at Manchester United in 2018.
Despite a good start to life at United, where he won 14 of his first 19 games as manager and led United to third place in 2019/20, Solskjaer was sacked after a 4-1 defeat to Watford in November 2021.
He then spent over three years out of football before assuming the role at Besiktas in January 2025. Now, just two months after being sacked by the club from the Turkish capital, he has another job.

The former striker, who scored 91 goals in 235 Premier League appearances for United, has recently been given the role of UEFA technical observer.
The role involves analysing the course of matches from a manager’s perspective in various matches under UEFA’s control. The observers also have the task of selecting the player of the pitch for each Champions League match.
They make their assessment using several criteria, including “which players have made an outstanding effort in one or more of the following ways: playing with exceptional skill in attack or defense; by playing a decisive role in decisive actions in attack or defense; by demonstrating tactical maturity and efficiency; and by playing with a positive and respectful attitude,” according to UEFA’s website.
Ahead of the 2025/26 Champions League season, Rafa Benítez, Roberto Martínez, Gaizka Mendieta, Sir Gareth Southgate, Frank de Boer, Avram Grant and Aitor Karanka were all appointed as technical observers.
Benitez, however, has since been given the job at Panathinaikos.
During a recent appearance on The Overlap, Solskjaer explained that he currently lives in Manchester, which allows him to attend matches in England as part of the role.
The 52-year-old also revealed that his agent has been approached by a number of clubs, and that he is open to coaching another club from the middle of the Championship to the Premier League.
