When you are considered one of England’s great attacking talents, but are 18 years young and play for the club that is going for titles in the Premier League and Champions League, then it almost naturally becomes thin with playing time. For Ethan Nwaneri, this means getting out of the Premier League for game time in another title fight.

Marseille are eight points behind Lens at the top of Ligue 1 after 18 games, PSG seven points ahead. It is this title fight and the fight for advancement in the Champions League that Nwaneri will now be a part of.

On Friday, Arsenal confirmed that the super talent has travelled to Marseille on loan for the rest of the season. This is a player Arteta and Arsenal plan to exploit for a long time to come, Marseille will have to settle for a loan deal with no option for more.

Last season, Nwaneri was on the pitch at Arsenal for a total of 26 games, the sender behind four goals. With only 165 minutes on the pitch spread over six games in the Premier League so far this season, a loan stay is the only right thing to do.

The pressure cooker in Marseille, with Roberto de Zerbi on the sidelines and Mason Greenwood, Pavard, Hojbjerg and Aubameyang as teammates, should give Nwaneri plenty of development opportunities – and challenges.
