We’ll admit there’s a bit of time between then and now, but still a good story. Will Still sat in the boys’ room and played Championship Manager all day, day in and day out for several years, thinking one day. – I have to do this out in the big world.

TalkSPORT reports that Will Still is a strong candidate for the vacant managerial position at Southampton. – Spouthampton have had such a poor season that nothing can stop them from being relegated from the Premier League. It’s all about finding my footing and coming back after next season.

Saints technical director Johannes Spors fired manager Ivan Juric a few days ago and has put the former computer-playing manager on his wish list.

As previously reported, Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is high on the South Seamers’ wish list, but he is also attracting interest from several German clubs, including RB Leipzig.

Still is considered one of the hottest coaching talents in European football at the moment.

Born in Belgium to English parents, the 32-year-old took over French side Lens last summer. In his first season, he has led the team to a 9th place finish in Ligue 1 – despite having to sell several key players, including Leny Yoro, who went to Manchester United for £52 million.

From Championship Manager to reality

Still has an unusual path to the managerial profession – he himself has admitted that the computer game Championship Manager inspired him to become a coach.

He started his professional coaching career in Belgium, before spending two years with Stade Reims and then moving to Lens. This came after he turned down an offer from Sunderland, who eventually hired Régis Le Bris.

The Task: Get Southampton Back in the Premier League

If Still gets the job, his task will be to secure the South Seamen back to the top division. The club’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed after a loss to Tottenham last weekend.

Juric, who was sacked by Roma in November after just 12 games, lasted just 107 days at Southampton after taking over for Russell Martin in December. But he was unable to save the club from relegation, and they were relegated to the Championship after just one season.

The 3-1 loss to Tottenham meant that Southampton set an unwanted record: the earliest relegation in Premier League history.

During Juric’s 16 games as manager, the team won only twice, while they lost 13.
