Ruben Amorim was well liked by several of the Man Utd players. No one should take that away from the Portuguese, but few will probably “mourn” as much as Amad Diallo.
The Manchester United winger has played his way into one of the club’s biggest attacking stars over the past two years. On national team duty in the Africa Cup of Nations (knocked out on Saturday), the 23-year-old has caught the whole circus with the sudden dismissal of “the coach who was supposed to have three years to succeed” from another continent. In an interview with beIN Sports, Diall talks about his reaction and his relationship with Amorim.

“I was sad because he is the coach who has given me the most visibility and the most opportunities to play for Manchester United. I was very sad and sent him a message to thank him for everything he has done for me – both in my life and especially in my career,” said Amad Diallo, who was knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday along with the Ivory Coast.
Who had an almost family bond with the Portuguese.
“We had a very good relationship – almost like a father-son relationship. He understood me, gave me a lot of advice, and let me play freely. It’s very unfortunate, but that’s life. You have to adapt – it’s part of football. I wish him all the best in life and in his next club,” says Amad Diallo.
