It has been an eventful weekend for Manchester United – with a negative sign. First, the 2-3 loss at Old Trafford to Nottingham Forest, which keeps Man United down to 13th place in the table with a meagre 19 points on the table account after 15 games. Then came the shock news on Sunday that the still new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, was done with immediate effect. Not many hours later, the name of the first candidate comes to take over the job.
While Manchester United have been through a tumble dryer journey over the past ten years after Alex Ferguson’s exit and with the Glazer Boys as owners, the situation has been completely different in Madrid. At Atletico Madrid, continuity has been the key word, for the past decade the club has had the same coach and sporting director. A collaboration that has given Atletico a permanent ticket to play in the Champions League.
