Joan Laporta will continue at Barcelona. Five more years for the 63-year-old, who has led the club through a turbulent period of financial clean-up, to say the least. His rival, Victor Font, received only 30 percent of the vote. He had been vocal about betting on Haaland signing, but could not show results before the vote. The Haaland card was therefore torn up.
Last week, Sport reported that Font was actively working to strengthen his candidacy by signing a deal for Erling Haaland. The Spanish newspaper claims Carles Planchart and Xavier Aguilar, who are leading members of Font’s team, held talks with Manchester City representatives on Wednesday. Their goal has been to secure a preferential purchase option for Erling Haaland, which will give Barcelona the advantage in signing the Norwegian superstar when the time comes for him to leave the Premier League club. If Font’s team had managed to reach an agreement with Man City before the weekend’s vote, this could prompt some members to choose him instead of Laporta.

Not surprisingly, there was no agreement for Haaland. The world’s best striker does not allow himself to be stressed when he has to choose his next club, presidential candidate Font’s campaign thus only kept to 30 percent support.
Joan Laporta now has five more years.
