Pål Fjelde has been given the job as set-piece coach for Premier League club Burnley.

The 30-year-old Norwegian coach comes from a position as an assistant coach in Danish Viborg FF, and is now taking the step into English top football. Burnley secured promotion to the Premier League last season.

After taking up the role, Fjelde said on Burnley’s pages: “I’m very excited. It’s a huge opportunity and I’m very happy to have the trust of the manager and the club.

I had a conversation with the manager and got a very good first impression. He really believed in what I was saying and we had a very similar philosophy about set pieces and the importance of that.

I think more and more clubs are seeing the importance of set pieces and how crucial they can be in games, so it’s important to put emphasis on them and put the work into them.”

Fjelde has strong connections to Viking FK, where he first worked in the academy before becoming part of the first team’s coaching staff in 2022. In addition to the club assignments, he is part of the Norwegian men’s national team’s staff as an analyst under national team manager Ståle Solbakken.

As an active player, Fjelde represented Bryne FK and Scottish St. Mirren, among others.
