Barcelona’s dressing room, there is widespread belief that PSG will be the academy product’s next destination once his €6 million release clause is triggered. However, sources close to the player firmly deny that there is any offer from the French team.

It looks increasingly likely that Pedro Fernández Sarmiento, known as Dro (18), will leave FC Barcelona.

Although the club had plans to extend and improve his contract – which currently runs through 2027 – everything now points towards exit in the current winter transfer window.

Despite both the club and head coach Hansi Flick publicly expressing strong confidence in him, the player faces stiff competition in midfield and feels he has been given very limited opportunities.

While there is no final clarification on his future within Barcelona, several sources in the dressing room have told MD that Paris Saint-Germain could be the “Dark Horse” in a potential transfer for Dro. This is based on comments the player has allegedly made to his teammates. In fact, many in the dressing room believe that he will end up in the French capital.

Currently no offers from Paris
Club sources consider this scenario plausible, while the player’s representatives insist that no offer has been received from PSG so far, and that Dro’s future has not yet been decided.

Early indications point to interest from England – Manchester City have shown interest in the past – as well as from Germany.

Nevertheless, PSG can never be ruled out, considering their financial strength and their good knowledge of Barcelona’s talent system. In any case, it is not expected that the solution to this situation will drag on for a long time.

Dro made his debut for the first team under Hansi Flick, but due to the great competition in midfield at Barça, he has chosen to consider offers from other clubs, rather than renew his contract.

The Galician player can operate as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder or on the left wing – positions where competition is extreme: Frenkie de Jong, Gavi (soon to return from injury), Pedri, Dani Olmo, Fermín, Raphinha and Marcus Rashford.

So far this season, Dro has played four La Liga games and one Champions League game. He has not been given playing time in the Copa del Rey, despite Barcelona facing lower division opponents such as Guadalajara and Racing Santander, nor in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Flick has not used him since December 12, when he played the last 16 minutes of the La Liga game against Atlético Madrid.

Barcelona, who top the La Liga table, travel today Sunday to the Reale Arena where they face Real Sociedad.
