Manchester City have admitted they have given up hope of signing Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskheli this summer. A month ago, Sky Blues began work on signing the Georgian superstar, but Napoli were already indicating that they would resist.

Napoli have started negotiations to extend Kvaratskhelia’s contract and have indicated they will double his salary.

Calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo reports that his agent Mamuka Jugeli met with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Monday to begin talks. The new contract will run until 2028. – The signals are that there are no problems in the negotiations and that in practice they have already reached an agreement.

Kvaratskhelia moved from Dinamo Batumi last summer for £11.5m – it turned out to be the deal of the season. Currently, it is said that Kvaratskhelia’s value is around 100 million euros. In all competitions, he scored 14 goals and made 14 assists. He has produced a string of outstanding performances, including thrashing Juventus 5-1 in January and Liverpool 4-1 in the Champions League last September.

Kvaratskhelia was a Real Madrid fan as a child and often said it was his dream to play for the Blancos.
