Earlier in the week, Manchester City manager Pep Guardola, after strong rumours about the exit of English left winger Jack Grealish, came forward with an explanation that he would deal with the 29-year-old and put him back on track.

Superstar Erling Braut Haaland is out until the end of the season and thus opened up for others, while Oscar Bobb who has been injured got to test the grass and came on in the 85th minute.

Jack Grealish scored his first Premier League goal in almost 16 months as Manchester City moved up to fourth place and pushed Leicester closer to relegation with a win at the Etihad Stadium.

City manager Pep Guardiola watched the game from the stands as Grealish – who made his first league start since December – finished off a rebound pass from Savinho as early as the 2nd minute.

At least Guardiola, who is serving a sideline ban, got to see the goal. Hundreds of City fans had not taken their seats at this time as part of a protest against expected season ticket price increases and a new commercial deal with ticket broker Viagogo.

Omar Marmoush, who led City’s attack in the absence of the injured Erling Haaland, increased the lead just before the half-hour mark. He hammered a first-touch shot under the crossbar after Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen failed to keep Ruben Dias’ lob into the penalty area.

Among a number of sad statistics, Leicester now have:

  • Lost 14 of the last 15 league games
  • 12 points from safety with only 8 games left
  • Become only the fourth team in English top division history to lose 7 games in a row without scoring
  • Conceded first goal in 25 out of 30 games
  • Not kept a single clean sheet away from home this season

Leicester seem to be on a rapid return to the Championship, just one year after their promotion.
