“He’s magic… you know!” A significant part of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium shook as Spurs supporters started another singing tribute to Mauricio Pochettino. Of course, it’s not just a tribute, it’s a plea for help. The Tottenham owners know they have no choice.
Igor Tudor is doing the best he can, but it has so far not resulted in any wins in the Premier League. One point above the relegation line, it’s about survival in the top division, something a forty-something-year-old Tottenham supporter hasn’t experienced before.

Around New Year’s, when Thomas Frank still had time and things could turn around, the Tottenham job was still attractive. Halfway through March, the potential coaching candidate is sitting on the fence to see how it goes. If there is relegation, it is out of the question anyway. With barely survival, it is waiting to see which of the best players leave, and whether the right players choose to move to Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino is not in this category.
We’ll let English Goal do the analysis.
“Pochettino is Tottenham’s most successful manager in modern times. Forget about using trophies as a barometer and only think of the best Spurs teams you can remember. They were all teams led by the Argentine. Best of all for Tottenham fans, he genuinely loves the club.”
“Tottenham, from the fans to the players to the board, loved Pochettino. He was a modern tactician with pressure and play from the defence, a sharp coach and exactly the kind of character you want as the face of your club. If there was a definitive image of Pochettino throughout his first three years at Spurs, it would be with tears in his eyes as Tottenham waved goodbye to old White Hart Lane for the last time.”
“The Tottenham job is not attractive anymore. Not now, not at the end of the season if they stay up, and definitely not if they are relegated. Since Pochettino’s departure in 2019, his successors have tended to experience the lowest points of their respective careers while at Tottenham.”

“Pochettino, who would not necessarily be deterred from being a manager in the Championship with Tottenham, is not only the favourite among fans to rekindle the fire they have for their club, but at this stage he is probably the most qualified candidate interested in the job. Combine this with the departures of sporting director Lange and perhaps even former Arsenal boss Venkatesham, and it would be the first sign that those who run the club seriously want the drastic change that is badly needed.”
“Pochettino’s return would probably also be met with more grace and patience than any other outsider. Even despite a promising performance against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup and a win away to Manchester City in his first month, Frank’s Spurs were still booed at half-time and at the play-offs in his first defeat, a 1-0 loss at home to Bournemouth. Even then, many supporters were unwilling to buy the “bridge” the club was trying to sell them, but most would happily jump at the offer of a reunion with Pochettino.
“Tottenham are devastated and only one man is worth calling to get them back together. There’s nothing else they can lose by going back to their old favorite.”
